Maribo Cares Story
Learn how our Founder & CEO followed her heart to help others.
In 2013, our founder, Marísa Bock, was diagnosed with a quick moving breast cancer, underwent a complete double mastectomy, and endured subsequent surgeries.
Marisa came from humble beginnings. She was raised in a modest family and with parents whose belief was, “Always find a way to give back to the community and find a need to fill.” More so than not, this belief of theirs meant helping not only family and friends in need, but the many needy families of their community. As an adult, Marisa has continuously found ways to help others, be it donating blood at various blood drives, helping family and friends in need, running a very successful homeless ministry, The Center of H.O.P.E., or founding and running Maribo Cares.
Her family’s legacy of giving to the community lives on with her continued benevolence for others and has been easily passed down to her daughters, whose kindness and compassion for others in need shine brightly from within. Both daughters are proud members of the Maribo Cares Charm and donate their time and talents to this worthy cause.
She found that the majority of assistance that is offered to cancer fighters is only available for individuals in the throes of radiation, chemotherapy, and/or are awaiting cancer surgery. Unfortunately, outside of those parameters, the assistance falls short.
She was turned away by virtually everyone because she was not within those parameters, regardless of the fact that she was in need of additional surgeries and recovery time.
Determined to help anyone affected by cancer get the services and assistance they need with dignity and caring support, Marísa set out to form Maribo Cares.
With so many men, women, and children affected by cancer, it is her vision to positively touch as many lives as possible, making recovery from cancer more bearable.
Marísa is committed to ensuring that the wonderful growth and work of Maribo Cares continues moving forward despite her ongoing health journey. Her caring heart and dedication to her clients have gained her tremendous respect from those who know her. Her welcoming heart and caring spirit are contagious, as is her smile and laughter.
